Adaptive Idle Control: Self-adjusting or adaptive idle control is a function provided by the DME III engine management system and by DDE. It ensures that the engine always idles at a speed, such as when the air conditioning cuts in, the power steering is turned or a gear is selected at the automatic transmission, but also other influences such as air pressure and temperature changes, reduced or increased friction in the engine as a result of wear etc., are all accurately identified and allowed for.

Adaptive idle speed control keeps the engine idling at a constant speed throughout its working life, regardless of the degree of component wear, the number of auxiliaries being drive(power steering pump, alternator etc.) the temperature or other outside influences.
